Mayo county town grieving death of 'a wonderful lady'
Fond tributes are being paid to Sheila Kilkelly (née Walsh) Castlebar, and formerly of Kilvine, Ballindine, whose death has occurred.
In her 91st year, she died peacefully yesterday surrounded by her adoring family in the compassionate care of the team at Sonas, Knock.
Sheila will be forever loved and deeply missed by her husband of 67 years John, family Siobhan, Frank, Brigid, Fionnghuala, Maria, Sinead and Ursula, sons-in-law Neil, Seamus and Cathal, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family in Ireland, the UK, Dubai and USA, and her very many friends from across her long and wonderfully rich life.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
Warm tributes are being paid to her on social media.
"She was a wonderful, humble and classy lady - and great neighbour," one stated.
Another said: "We have many fond memories of a strong and lasting friendship from days of playing tennis, badminton, bridge and golf together, as well as acting on various committees over the years."
A further tribute observed: "She was a wonderful lady, elegant, stylish, gentle, kind, loving, caring and the very heart of the Kilkelly family."
In a tribute, Castlebar Tennis Club described Sheila as 'an absolute stalwart, so courteous, so competent and always having the interests of the club and its members at heart'.
It added: "She was a real trooper in her quiet, unassuming way and her tireless contribution to Castlebar Tennis Club will forever be appreciated."

Reposing at Coady’s Funeral Home, Linenhall Street, Castlebar, tomorrow (Sunday) from 4.30 p.m. with removal at 6 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
Requiem Mass on Monday at 11 a.m.
Sheila will be laid to rest afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
