Health and wellbeing information boards to be installed in Mayo community settings
MAYO County Council, in collaboration with Mental Health Ireland, is launching a new series of health and wellbeing information boards across community spaces throughout the county.
Designed to promote positive mental health and improve access to supports, the boards will be located in venues such as community centres, family resource centres, art centres and sport clubs.
Each board provides local and national mental health and wellbeing supports, along with wellbeing advice based on Mental Health Ireland’s Five Ways to Wellbeing. QR codes will link users to further digital resources and self-help tools.
This initiative aims to make mental health information more visible and accessible, encouraging communities to engage with support services in familiar, everyday settings.
Joanne Grehan, director of services, Mayo County Council, said: "The wellbeing information board initiative is a powerful reflection of Mayo County Council’s commitment to building resilient communities and making sure those communities are supported.
“These boards are more than signage, they are visible, everyday reminders that support is available and that mental health and wellbeing matters.
“Furthermore, inclusion and collaboration is at the heart of how we design our services, and we would like to thank all our partners, especially Mental Health Ireland, for their support in making this initiative possible.”
Teresa Keane, Mental Health Ireland development officer for Mayo and Roscommon, added: “We’re really proud of how the wellbeing boards have come to life through true collaboration. Working alongside Mayo County Council and with community support, we designed these boards to be inclusive, accessible and genuinely helpful to everyone.
“They’re all about offering credible signposting and making sure people know they’re not alone - support is out there and within reach.”
Elmer Pieterse, Healthy Mayo coordinator, said: “Healthy Mayo is focused on supporting the overall health and wellbeing of our communities. These boards provide clear, practical information on a range of health topics - from mental health to physical activity and local supports - helping to make the healthy choice the easier choice.”
Organisations interested in hosting a board in their community space are invited to contact Healthy Mayo coordinator Elmer Pieterse at (094) 906 4364 or epieterse@mayococo.ie.
Installation of the boards will begin this summer, with locations added on a phased basis.
