Disqualified and suspected drink driver caught in north Mayo speed check

Gardaí have confirmed that a motorist detected during a speed check in Bonniconlon last week is now facing multiple charges after it emerged the individual was disqualified from driving and failed a roadside breath test.

The incident followed complaints from local residents concerned about vehicles speeding through the village.

Members of the Mayo Roads Policing Unit conducted a speed enforcement operation in the area in response to local calls.

During the operation, Gardaí stopped a vehicle displaying incorrect documentation on the windscreen.

Upon further investigation using the Garda Mobility App, it was discovered that the driver was currently serving a disqualification from driving.

The driver was then subjected to a roadside breath test, which Gardaí say he failed.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

In a statement issued by An Garda Síochána Mayo, the force confirmed that the individual now faces prosecution for driving while disqualified.

Additional charges for suspected drunk driving are pending the outcome of further tests.
