€688,539 in Community Recognition funding for Mayo projects

Mayo TD Keira Keogh has warmly welcomed the announcement of €688,539 in funding for County Mayo under Phase 3 of the 2024 Community Recognition Fund.

The fund recognises the efforts of towns and villages that have welcomed people fleeing conflict, particularly from Ukraine, and helps support and develop shared community spaces for everyone.

“This funding supports communities that have shown immense leadership and compassion in welcoming people from Ukraine and other countries,” said Deputy Keogh. “From Castlebar to Mulranny, Ballina to Newport - these projects will enhance shared spaces and facilities in our communities, it’s about making sure our shared spaces reflect the growing and changing needs of the people who use them.”

The funded Mayo projects are:

€189,033 for Castlebar Skate Park - phase 2

€112,918 for Foxford Moy Davitts GAA (boundary wall, footpath, parking)

€63,338 to upgrade Mulranny/Tiernaur Amenity Centre

€63,250 to enhance Princess Grace Park, Newport

€60,000 for enhancement works at Murrisk Cemetery

€50,000 to replace heating system in Ballina Arts Centre

€50,000 for refurbishment of astroturf games area in Ballycastle

€50,000 for Castlebar Market Square enhancement

€50,000 for Westport roundabout enhancement by Tidy Towns.

Said Deputy Keogh: “This is practical investment in real places - playgrounds, parks, community halls - where people come together. That’s what strengthens community ties, especially as we become more diverse.”

The Community Recognition Fund is managed by the Department of Rural and Community Development and delivered locally through Mayo County Council. This is the third phase of the scheme, continuing its commitment to inclusive development and support for community-led responses.

“Every cent of this investment reflects the heart and solidarity of Mayo communities,” Keogh added. “We’re investing not just in pitches and parks, but in belonging and connection.”
