Mayo Cumann na mBunscol Division 5 Football Final

Eight goals were shared between two very competitive sides in what was an absorbing contest, with Carn National School eventually claiming the honours by 4-11 to 4-9 over Carramore National School.
Both sides were full of energy during the early exchanges and it was of little surprise that the sides were level at 1-2 apiece after five minutes, with Lily McAndrew’s opening goal for Carn negated by Katelyn Maloney’s marvellous three-pointer for Carramore.
Indeed, Carramore’s Maloney had a superb game and her four first half points kept her team-mates in contention.
However, Carn edged the final minutes of the first half and goals from Caoimhe Finnerty and Erin McDonnell, after the latter received an inch-perfect delivery from McAndrew, gleaned a 3-5 to 1-6 half-time lead for the maroon and green.
Carn appeared to be in the ascendancy when their captain McAndrew guided home her team-mates fourth goal of the contest to shunt the maroon and yellow into a healthy 4-7 to 1-7 lead.
However, Carramore didn’t read the script and the chasers plundered three goals during four minutes from Aoife Tansey, Grace Doyle, and Tansey once again, which levelled the game at 4-8 apiece.
As full-time loomed, extra-time seemed a real possibility, but Carn were methodical in their build-up play and the Moygownagh outfit landed the winning scores from Caoimhe Finnerty (2), and McAndrew (free).
