Plans for new Mayo GAA centre of excellence progressing

SITE investigation works on the site of the new multi-million euro GAA centre of excellence in Bohola are nearing completion.

The tender for the first section of the project, for Mayo LGFA as well as the GAA, is also out.

The update was given by Councillor Adrian Forkan at the monthly Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting, where he suggested the Durkan Bohola biodiversity community park committee be invited to a future meeting to brief councillors in full on the project.

The development, he explained, has full planning permission and works on site investigation for the GAA are ongoing and nearing completion.

A 20-year licence agreement for the LGFA has been signed, which is significant, having struggled over the years to get a facility. And to have a home in this facility was testament to where this project is going, he stated.

The first section has gone for tender and that should be back in the next few days, with over €1 million spent already.

“This will be a great news story for Mayo GAA,” said Councillor Forkan. “This is foresight and something we should be pushing.”
