Funding to start second phase of Mayo skate park
THE second phase of the skate park in Castlebar will progress this year.
Councillor Ger Deere has welcomed confirmation from Minister Alan Dillon that €189,000 has been awarded to Castlebar Municipal District from the Community Recognition Fund to complete phase two of the skate park at Lough Lannagh.
Phase one was opened last year and it has proven to be a popular attraction, with people of all age groups using the facility.
“The news that phase two can now go ahead is very welcome,” said Councillor Deere. “I have campaigned since my election and my first motion back in 2019 was that we identify a suitable site and then seek funding.
“I want in particular to thank and congratulate all who campaigned over the last 20 years for this development - John Flaherty, Jarlath McHale and Nathan Dunne, along with all their group.
“A huge thanks also to David Mellett and staff in the Castlebar MD for the design and preparing the application and to the Mayo Rollers group for their input.
“Looking forward to works starting soon and the opening before the end of the year.”
