Mayo motorist caught driving at more than double speed limit has vehicle impounded

GARDAÍ in Mayo caught a driver excessively speeding and with an expired NCT in east Mayo last night.

Mayo Roads Policing Unit carried out a speed checkpoint on Saturday night on the N5 in Charlestown.

Gardai state that, “a motorist was detected travelling at a speed of 204kph in a 100kph zone.”

To make matters worse, the vehicle had no recent NCT, which had “expired by 14 months,” leaving the Gardaí with no choice but to impound the vehicle.

“The motorist was subsequently arrested and charged for dangerous driving and will soon be before the courts," the force stated.
