Bull weanlings and stores a great trade at Mayo mart
TRADE was dearer on Saturday for bull weanlings and store bullocks 300kg to 400kg at Balla Mart.
It's amazing how good some weanling bulls were for the time of year - all the best were making over €5/kg.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €5.08/kg, stores 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.68/kg, while heavier bullocks 500kg plus averaged €4.43/kg.
A BBX weighing 345kg made €2,280 (€6.61/kg) for a farmer from Belcarra. There were very little heavy bullocks in the 700kg category but they made over €3,100.

Prices in the heifers remained strong too, with the averages similar to last week. Lighter store heifers 300kg to 400kg averaged €4.64/kg, heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.55/kg, and those 500kg plus averaged €4.12/kg.

A farmer from Foxford had a 380kg SIX heifer weanling that made €2,280 (€6/kg). A Castlerea farmer did very well selling a 525kg LMX that made €2,650 (€5.05/kg).
The cows were, as usual, a good trade. The best this week was a three-year-old red Limousin cow, with its EBY heifer calf at foot, that was sold for €4,250 by an Enniscrone farmer.
There are great numbers of weanlings coming out - way more than normal for this time of year. Prices were way up for the heavier bulls, with great demand from exporters, both buying around the ring and online, causing a serious trade.
The best price was got by a seller from Co. Galway who sold his 450kg BBX to a Castlerea farmer for €4,700 (€10.44/kg).
The tops were making from €3,000 to €4,000 with stock 450kg averaging over €6/kg for the first time.
Bull weanlings 200kg to 350kg averaged €5.08/kg, those 350kg to 450kg averaged €5.05/kg, while bulls 450kg were averaging a whopping €6.10/kg.
