Claremorris Gaelscoil seals Mayo GAA hurling title in some style

A FLURRY of goals from Gaelscoil de Búrca proved crucial in the end as a brave St. Colmcille’s couldn’t match their opponent’s penchant for three-pointers.

The final score in this Cumann na mBunscol Division Three Hurling final was Gaelscoil de Búrca, Claremorris 5-6, St. Colmcille’s, The Quay, Westport 1-2

Gaelscoil de Búrca notched the opening score of the game inside the first minute courtesy of a pointed free from Leo O’Cionaoith.

However, St. Colmcille’s responded in impressive fashion, as Moses Gibbons bravely closed down a clearance and his blocked effort trickled to the back of the net.

Ben McLoughlin then added a free for the white and blue and it appeared that the west Mayo pupils were in the ascendency.

Gaelscoil de Búrca regrouped though, and towards the end of the first half goals by Jonah O’Domhnaill and Liam MacTomáis, helped garner a tidy 2-3 to 1-1 interval lead for the green and black.

A positive start to the new half was imperative for the chasers, but Gaelscoil de Búrca’s Leo O’Cionaoith notched 1-3 (0-1f) during the opening exchanges of the second half and The Quay were left with a mountain to climb.

The south Mayo side closed out proceedings impressively and two further goals from Oscar O’Murchú and Conor O’Murchú helped round off an impressive display by the green and black.
