Former Mayo boss reveals surprising career highlight in podcast episode

Former Mayo manager James Horan has named the 2011 victory over reigning champions Cork as the standout highlight of his career, in a candid new interview on the Raised on Songs and Stories podcast.

In conversation with host Tara Doherty, Horan reflected on his early days in charge of Mayo and the significance of that breakthrough victory.

“We were still finding ourselves and developing our identity,” he said.

“It was that second half, we unleashed the team that we were,” the former All-Star stated.

Horan, who managed Mayo in two spells (2010–2014 and 2018–2022), opened up about the highs and lows of championship football, his roots with Ballintubber GAA, and the personal pressures that come with managing at the highest level, including the growing impact of social media.
