Popular north Mayo swimming spot closed following water contamination

A "no swim notice" has been issued for the tidal pool and sea swimming area at Shore Road in Belmullet, after recent water samples showed elevated levels of contamination.

The advisory, which was shared on social media by Belmullet Tidal Pool, comes amid fears that high tides could further affect water quality in the pool.

Mayo County Council has also confirmed the no swim notice remains in place as a precautionary measure.

“We are waiting for new sample results to come back but it will take a day or two,” said the statement.

Locals and visitors are advised to avoid swimming in the area until further notice.

Updates are expected in the coming days as test results are returned.
