Road failure, crossing and bus stop issues in Mayo town

FOUR areas of concern in Foxford have been raised at municipal level by Councillor Neil Cruise.

They include a 'road failure' on the N26 at Belass, the pedestrian crossing and bus stops in the town, as well as a broken down bus blocking the bridge over the Moy recently.

The issue with the road at Belass is seeing people going out into oncoming traffic to avoid the section that has failed, creating a danger, Councillor Cruise highlighted, asking that some urgency be brought to dealing with it.

At the bus stops, there is no facility for them to pull in off the road and he asked that this be looked at.

Issues with the pedestrian crossing also need an injection of urgency, he continued.

They could have all the safety and feasibility reports but when someone is seriously injured or killed, the reports will be no use, he said.

Councillor Cruise also highlighted how a bus broke down on Friday evening of the bank holiday on the bridge in Foxford, creating 'pandemonium'.

It's a matter he has raised previously and something has to be done, he said.
