Mayo Sports Partnership launches Sports Ability Week 2025
Mayo Sports Partnership has launched Sports Ability Week, now in its fifth year.
Taking place next week (Monday to Sunday, June 23 to 29), this initiative continues to promote inclusive sports and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities across Mayo.
Organised in collaboration with local clubs and partner organisations, Sports Ability Week is a key part of Mayo Sports Partnership’s Sports Inclusion Programme, which is dedicated to increasing access to sport for people of all abilities.
Throughout the week, a wide variety of inclusive events will be held across the county, including walking, cycling, inclusive football and soccer, kayaking for children and adults with additional needs, VI tennis, pétanque, and more.
These activities are designed to engage participants of all ages and abilities, while also showcasing some of Mayo’s most scenic and accessible outdoor amenities.
Charlie Lambert, head of Mayo Sports Partnership (MSP), emphasised that the focus of the week is on people’s abilities rather than disabilities, highlighting the growing awareness among local sports clubs of the importance of inclusivity. He noted that MSP is available to provide training and support to clubs interested in developing inclusive programmes.
Ray McNamara, Sports Inclusion Disability Officer with MSP, encouraged individuals of all abilities to take part in the events, adding that it is encouraging to see more clubs becoming inclusive and offering opportunities for everyone in the community to participate.
Sports Ability Week 2025 is a celebration of inclusivity in sport and a call to action for individuals, families, and clubs to get involved and experience the benefits of physical activity. A full interactive booking calendar can be found here.
