Temporary closure for scenic Mayo route to commence at the end of the month

MOTORISTS in the Pontoon and Knockmore areas are advised of an upcoming temporary road closure that is expected to cause significant travel disruption over the coming weeks.

Mayo County Council has confirmed that the R310 Pontoon to Knockmore Road will be closed at the site of the former Healy’s Hotel from Monday, June 30 to Friday, July 11, to facilitate essential roadworks.

Traffic management measures will be in place for the duration of the works, with delays anticipated, particularly during peak travel times. Road users are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and use alternative routes where possible.

Recommended diversions include:

The R315 via Lahardane to Crossmolina and on to Ballina, and

The R318, which will accommodate traffic heading toward Foxford and Castlebar.

Emergency services will be accommodated throughout the works to ensure no interruption to critical response times.
