Top Mayo club continue their march toward third league title

CASTLEBAR CELTIC notched their 11th straight win of the season with a composed 3–0 victory over a spirited but understrength Conn Rangers at Celtic Park writes Mike Kelly.

The defending champions were made to work hard, particularly in a goalless first half where the visitors defended resolutely and almost took a shock lead through Tadhg O’Sullivan.

Celtic created the bulk of the chances early on, with Lerlah Hay, Eoghan Hughes and Dylan Edwards all going close, only to be denied by some fine goalkeeping from Brian McMahon.

However, the breakthrough came just two minutes into the second half as Fionn Mahon rifled home after a slick move.

With Rangers effectively down to ten men after O’Sullivan picked up an injury, due to a lack of substitutes. Celtic capitalised.

Hughes doubled the lead from a low Mark Howley cross, and substitute Luke Kelly sealed the win late on after being put through by Mark Cunningham.
