Fianna Fáil nominee set to be new cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council
History will be made at the annual general meeting of Mayo County Council next Friday.
Belmullet Councillor Sean Carey will become the first Fianna Fáil representative from the Erris barony be elected to the post of cathaoirleach since Tim Quinn in 2002.
Councillor Carey is his party's nominee for the position and it is Fianna Fáil's turn to wear the chain of office as part of an agreement made with Fine Gael at last year's annual general meeting.
The previous councillor from Erris to serve in the role was Councillor Gerry Coyle in 2006/07.
