Passing of 'a true gentleman' is mourned in Mayo communities

The death has taken place of Jimmy Joe Staunton, Breaffy Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Castlecarra, Clogher, Claremorris

He died peacefully at his home yesterday surrounded by his loving, heartbroken family.

Tributes on social media have described the deceased as 'a true gentleman'.

Jimmy Joe will be deeply regretted by his loving wife Margaret (née Philbin), sons Kenneth and Kieran, daughter Sandra, daughters-in-law Linda and Sandra, son-in-law Damien, adored grandchildren Roisín, Cathal, Ruby and Michael.

He will be sadly missed by his brothers, Michael, Colm, Martin, Tom, sisters, Bridie, Mary and Margaret, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family and wide circle of friends and neighbours, old and new.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved on their loss.

Jimmy Joe was predeceased by his parents James and Mary, brother Walter and the deceased members of the Staunton and Philbin family.

His remains will repose at the home of his son Kieran and daughter-in-law Sandra, in Ballintubber, Claremorris (F12X4X2), on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral will arrive at Ballintubber Abbey on Thursday for Requiem Mass at 12 noon with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
