Two Mayo collection points for National Brown Bread Baking Competition

The National Brown Bread Baking Competition, sponsored by Euronics in association with the National Ploughing Association (NPA) and the Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA), are highlighting the brown bread collection dates, times and locations in Mayo.

Bakers from across the county are encouraged to offer up their signature brown breads, whether they stick to traditional recipes passed down through generations or add a special twist.

The collection day is Friday, August 1, and the collection points are Keans on Mount Street, Claremorris, and Brodericks on Castlebar Road, Westport, between 9 and 11 a.m.

All successful entrants will be contacted on August 11 and invited to attend the National Ploughing Championships Brown Bread Baking Tent on September 18.

The winning brown bread baker this year will walk away with a cash prize of €5,000 plus a NEFF 'slide and hide' oven. The three finalists on September 18 will win a €500 Euronics gift card, and all other finalists will receive a €250 Euronics gift card and a Neff hamper.

Speaking from experience, last year’s winner, Rose Egan, said: “The competition truly was one of the best experiences ever. I encourage everyone to enter, no matter how skilled you are as a baker. You could be the lucky winner! It’s really as they say – if you’re not in it, you can’t win it!”

If you think you have the recipe for success, log on to the NEFF, ICA or Euronics websites for information on how to enter as well as full terms, conditions and competition rules.
