Concern over 'disconnect' with Mayo CCTV systems in towns and villages

A Mayo Oireachtas member has raised concerns over the adequate nature of CCTV systems in towns and villages across the county.

Senator Mark Duffy said their success in protecting communities depends on local groups or initiatives through local authorities - and there seems to be a disconnect and that regard.

He elaborated: "For protection in our towns and villages, we need to ensure there is adequate CCTV.

"There should be an audit of every town and village to see where there is functioning and adequate CCTV in place and where there are gaps.

"That is from the point of view of safety on the streets, but also to see where gangs are driving through different towns and going undetected."
