Mayo dragon boat club to celebrate a special milestone
Gráine Mhaol Dragon Boat Club will celebrate 10 years on Lough Lannagh, Castlebar, on Saturday, July 12.
For members It has been a very fast decades but a very successful length of time - seeing people from all over Mayo and further afield come to paddle on Lough Lannagh.
To mark the milestone, the club is planning an event with members past and present and invited guests, the people who helped them out at the start and the ones who are still helping out and supporting.
A reception will be held in Castlebar Tennis Club on Saturday, July 12, at 5 p.m. followed by food, presentations, live music and an 80s disco.
Said a spokesperson: "It is our first real milestone and we want to celebrate not only the club but the diversity of our members.
"We originally started off as a cancer survivors club but, as the years went on, we opened it up to family and friends of cancer survivors too.
"And then when the war came about in Ukraine, we opened up to the Ukrainian community.
"Inclusivity is at the heart of our club's mission and we welcome people from any background, offering a safe space with support, along with the benefit of getting out in nature and paddling for fitness, good health and fun."
