Mayo native to support The Specials Ltd. in Castlebar
This summer, Castlebar will echo with the unmistakable sounds of two-tone ska as Matt McManamon, former live guitarist for The Specials, takes the stage to support The Specials Ltd. at the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Thursday, July 17.
In a special one-night-only event marking the 45th anniversary of the band’s iconic number one single ‘Ghost Town’, fans will witness a unique convergence of legacy and tribute.
McManamon, a Mayo native and resident, is well known as the front man of The Dead 60s and for his critically acclaimed solo record, Scally Folk.
His recent live performances with The Specials have further cemented his connection to the band's enduring influence.
Now, in his home county, McManamon will help set the tone for an unforgettable evening of music, nostalgia and celebration.
The Specials Ltd., hailed as the most authentic tribute to the original pioneers of the UK ska revival, recreate the sound, energy and spirit of the legendary band. Their set will include fan favourites and era-defining hits such as 'Gangsters', 'A Message To You Rudy', 'Too Much Too Young', 'Do Nothing' and 'Ghost Town'.
When The Specials disbanded in 1981, they left behind more than just hit records – they defined a generation and launched careers of fellow two-tone acts such as Madness, The Beat, The Bodysnatchers and The Selecter through their self-founded 2-Tone Records.
This upcoming show is not merely a tribute, but a full-scale celebration of a cultural movement that transformed British music history. Whether you're reliving your youth or discovering ska for the first time, the evening promises high-energy performances, powerful nostalgia, and first-class live music.
