Appeal for action on provision of coffee dock at Mayo lake amenity
Independent councillor for the Castlebar Municipal District, Harry Barrett, has made a submission in response to the public consultation on the Draft Casual Trading Byelaws for Castlebar.
He outlined: “A constituent has contacted me with a request to establish a mobile coffee dock at Lough Lannagh, to serve walkers, cyclists, families and visitors using the Greenway, the playground, and the lakeside facilities. I fully support this proposal.
"There is currently no refreshment option available at the lake, despite the fact that it is one of the busiest recreational areas in Castlebar.
"A small, well-run coffee unit would be a welcome addition, particularly during the mornings and evenings when local cafes are closed or out of easy reach for those on foot or bike.
"I recommend that a designated casual trading location be included in the byelaws, ideally near the existing car park. The setup would need to be tidy, temporary and respectful of the amenity, but would clearly meet a growing public demand and enhance the visitor experience at Lough Lannagh.
"This proposal is in line with the council’s responsibilities to promote community development and local enterprise, and would support small business in a practical, low-impact way," he added.
