Sauna service proposal for popular Mayo lake
PLANS to provide a mobile sauna at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar are being pursued by Mayo County Council.
The Castlebar Municipal District is inviting mobile sauna providers to express their interest in operating a pilot sauna service at the popular lake.
With moves also underway to allow for a coffee dock, and work progressing on a water refill station, this latest positive news for an amenity used by hundreds of people every day has been welcomed by Councillor Ger Deere.
The pilot aims to assess the viability and public interest in a mobile sauna facility, optimal location and setup logistics, suitable operating hours and seasonal demand, and also health, safety, and environmental considerations.
The council is looking for experienced and innovative providers who can deliver a high-quality, safe and enjoyable sauna experience for locals and visitors alike.
Interested providers are invited to submit their expression of interest by email to castlebarao@mayococo.ie by Friday, July 18. Depending on the level of interest received, a competitive process may be initiated to determine the successful operator.
Councillor Deere expressed his delight at seeing the Castlebar Municipal District inviting mobile sauna providers to express their interest in operating a pilot sauna service at the beautiful Lough Lannagh.
He stated: “I have highlighted this on numerous occasions, along with the provision of a coffee dock, which, thankfully, is currently in process under the casual bylaws.
“Additionally, I have been informed that another facility I have been campaigning for - a water refill station at Lough Lannagh - is also being progressed.
“Once completed, these enhancements will significantly add to the wonderful facilities we have at Lough Lannagh.”
In relation to the coffee dock plan, submissions in relation to proposed revised casual trading bylaws are open until 5 p.m. on Monday, July 7.
