Mayo shot-stopper signs permanent deal with Forest Green Rovers
Forest Green Rovers today confirmed the permanent signing of former Manulla FC goalkeeper Luke McNicholas from Wrexham AFC, subject to international clearance.
The 25-year-old Belcarra native began his footballing journey with local club Manulla before earning a professional contract with Sligo Rovers.
During his time with the League of Ireland side, McNicholas gained valuable first-team experience through loan spells at Finn Harps and Northern Irish club Cliftonville.
After returning to Sligo in the summer of 2022, McNicholas joined Wrexham in August 2023 and completed a permanent move to the Welsh side in January 2024.
Most recently, he impressed during a loan spell with Rochdale last season, recording six clean sheets in nine appearances, including a standout performance in a goalless draw against Forest Green. Unfortunately, an injury cut short his promising stint there.
Forest Green Rovers expressed their enthusiasm over the signing, stating: “We’re delighted to welcome Luke to FGR.”
McNicholas will join ahead of the new season. The National League club are managed by former Birmingham and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage.
