Mayo’s Judge Murphy appointed to new judicial role in her home county

JUDGE Sandra Murphy has been appointed to a new judicial role in her home county.

The Ballinrobe native, who had been serving in the District Court across south Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim, will now take up a position in District 3, which encompasses her home county of Mayo.

The new appointment takes immediate effect, although Judge Murphy is expected to return briefly to finalise certain matters already before her in District 2.

Judge Murphy is the daughter of former Mayo County Registrar Patsy Murphy.

Judge Murphy has been a familiar face on the circuit since her appointment to District 2 in December 2021.

Prior to that, she served as a ‘mobile judge’ and was elevated to the bench in October 2020, following a distinguished career as a solicitor with Gilmartin and Murphy Solicitors in Kiltimagh.

She takes over from Judge Fiona Lydon, who has returned to District 7 in her native Galway.
