Warm tributes following death of popular Mayo county town personality

CASTLEBAR man Vivian Quinn, who has died, is being warmly remembered as the community mourns the loss of a much loved figure.

Vivian, of Newantrim, Sarnaught, and late of Turlough Road, Castlebar, died suddenly at his residence.

He was a member of a very popular and respected local family and made his mark as being someone always with time for a chat, a smile on his face, and a real gentleman.

One tribute from a friend, on rip.ie, recalled: “Vivian was a gentle, quick witted guy who would always meet you with a smile. I feel fortunate to have met him recently and we got to catch up on his family, who he was so proud of. We also got to recall some wonderful childhood adventures together along the Turlough Road....farewell to a decent and loyal friend.”

Said another: “I remember fondly our schools days in St. Patrick’s. We were brothers in mischief and ready to take on the world. In St. Gerald’s we (some number of us) got up to virtually all the mandatory teenage shenanigans and passed with flying colours.

“Later we remained firm friends through our love of post-punk and new-wave music, hearty laughs, and, many’s a good all-Ireland political debate (for which he was never ill-tempered). He had a keenly informed mind for national and local modern history.”

Predeceased by his father Michael Quinn, Vivian is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Helen, sons Jack, Aidan and Cathal, his mother Bridie, brother Jerome, sisters Sandra (McCormick) and Elaine (Fusciardi), sister-in-law Julie (Quinn), brothers-in-law Brendan and Leo, mother-in-law Maura (Phelan), father-in-law Sean (Phelan), sisters-in-law Valerie (Phelan), Ruth (Healy), Suzanne (Killeen), Vanessa (Biggs) and Deirdre (Carty), brother-in-law Fintan (Phelan), nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends to whom sympathy is extended on their loss.

Vivian will repose in Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Monday from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m.

Removal from his residence on Tuesday morning at 10.15 a.m for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. He will be laid to rest afterwards in Castlebar New Cemetery.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
