All roads lead to east Mayo for Coillte Come Home this week

THE countdown is well and truly on for the Coillte Come Home Festival, taking place in Kiltimagh from tomorrow (Wednesday) until Monday (July 9 to 14).

It kicks off tomorrow with the Coillte Laughs comedy show in the Cill Aodain Hotel (sold out) followed by the official opening and fireworks in the festival field from 10.45 p.m.

There will be street busking from 7.30 to 9 p.m. and the inter-pub quiz at 9.30 p.m. on Thursday, July 10.

Friday, July 11, sees the High Stool Prophets perform on Main Street (€10). The busking competition winners will also be on stage to open the evening's entertainment.

Race2Glory is on Saturday, July 12, and later that night Ruaile Buaile are live on the main street from 9.30 p.m., with support act KOJAK on stage from 8 p.m.

Kiltimagh Knock United host the Soccer World Cup on Sunday, July 13, with a family fun day and kiddies' tractor run in town from 12.30 p.m. The Coillte Darts finals will be played later in Langan's.

The Coillte Golf Cup will be held in Balla Golf Club on Monday, July 14.

Murray’s Funfair will be open in the festival field from Thursday to Sunday, with entertainment throughout the festival in local pubs and hotels.

To facilitate the festival, Kiltimagh Tourism Festivals has advised of the following road closure on Friday and Saturday, July 11 and 12: Main Street from Teach O'Hora to Langan's Bar will be closed to all traffic from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. each evening to allow for open air concerts. Residents and patrons are asked to remove parked cars from this area prior to 4.30 p.m. each evening.

Traffic diversions will be in place via James Street and Thomas Street. Footpaths will be accessible.

A public notice has been issued and permission has been granted from Mayo County Council. All are asked to cooperate with stewards.
