Mayo delegation attends German tourism roadshow
MAYO North Tourism was proud to represent north Mayo as part of a wider west and northwest tourism delegation at the Ireland Connect - Wild Atlantic Way overseas roadshow, held in Bonn, just outside Cologne.
Organised by Tourism Ireland Germany in partnership with Ireland West Airport, the event aimed to promote the western region of Ireland to a key German audience. Representatives from Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Galway, Roscommon, and Donegal participated in a collaborative industry showcase, highlighting the diversity and appeal of the wider region along the Wild Atlantic Way.
The event brought together over 30 German travel trade and media representatives, with the goal of capitalising on the twice-weekly direct flight from Cologne-Bonn to Ireland West Airport. This route offers convenient access to some of Ireland’s most spectacular and authentic experiences - from dramatic coastlines and vibrant towns to rich cultural heritage and exceptional hospitality.
The Mayo delegation was led by Maura Murphy of Mayo County Council, and included Mairéad Melody Carr (Mayo North Tourism), Biddy Hughes (Westport Estate) and Sarah Greaney and Maja Labusinska (Breaffy House Hotel).
Throughout the showcase, German agents responded positively to the region’s accessibility, wide range of accommodation and activities, and the cooler summer climate, which offers a refreshing escape from continental Europe’s high temperatures.
A major highlight of the evening was the Good Food Ireland experience, which spotlighted the culinary richness of the region, much to the delight of attendees.
“This event was a fantastic opportunity to showcase north Mayo as part of a strong regional offering across the west and northwest,” said Mairéad Melody Carr, manager of Mayo North Tourism. “The direct flight from Cologne-Bonn to Ireland West Airport makes access to the region remarkably convenient for German visitors and strengthens our appeal as a destination along the Wild Atlantic Way.”
Mayo North Tourism has extended thanks to Maura Murphy of Mayo County Council for the opportunity to participate, to Denise Quinn of Tourism Ireland Germany and Clodagh Cronolly of Ireland West Airport for co-hosting and delivering such a well-executed and impactful showcase, and to all involved in strengthening connections with the German travel trade and media.
