Brian Finn has announced his decision not to seek another term as Mayo Under 20 hurling manager.

Another managerial vacancy for Mayo GAA as Under 20 hurling manager steps away

The Mayo GAA Under 20 hurling manager, Brian Finn, has informed the county board that he is not seeking another term.

Finn, who completed his three-year term this summer, thanked Mayo GAA and the County Hurling Committee for their support over the past number of years. He also wished all the Mayo GAA hurling clubs and all the county hurling teams well in the future.

Brian Finn managed the Mayo minor hurlers to back-to-back All-Ireland titles in 2013 and 2014, and managed the Under 17 and Under 20 hurlers for six years before joining Ray Larkin as joint manager of the Mayo senior hurling team in 2023. Brian stepped away from the senior hurling team last year but remained with the Under 20 hurlers.

Brian’s backroom team with the Mayo Under 20 hurlers included Westport's Davy Kitterick, Gerry Glavey from Tooreen, and Brendan Geraghty from Castlebar Mitchels.

Mayo GAA chairperson Seamus Tuohy thanked Brian for his commitment and dedication.

He said: “I would like to thank Brian and his backroom team for all the work and time they gave to Mayo hurling, and in particular the way they developed so many new players that have gone on to represent the Mayo senior hurling team with great distinction.”

Mayo GAA hurling chairperson Sean Ó Raghallaigh added: “Brian is a brilliant ambassador for club and county hurling and I want to thank him for his leadership, vision and commitment. He is a true hurling man. I am sure he will continue to promote the game in his club and within Mayo in the years to come.”

In the coming weeks, Mayo GAA will revert to the hurling clubs within the county for nominations for the position of Under 20 hurling manager for next year.

Mayo GAA are already on the lookout for managers for the senior, Under 20 and Under 17 football teams, while the Mayo LGFA senior team also has a vacancy at the helm.
