Castlebar Town recorded a crucial victory away to Ballinrobe Town on Sunday morning.

Castlebar Town on the verge of promotion

Castlebar Town took a big step towards promotion after they recorded a 3-1 victory away to Ballinrobe Town B in League Two this Sunday morning.

The victory sees Castlebar Town remain in second spot, but crucially they are now four points clear of third placed Ballinrobe.

With just two league games remaining everything seems to be going to plan for Castlebar and the black and white are on the verge of promotion to League One.

Castlebar began this tie the brighter and Greg Losiak’s troops snatched the lead after just two minutes, courtesy of the poaching Kevin Walsh.

Ballinrobe were under pressure and the visitors were awarded a penalty on 13 minutes, after the aforementioned Walsh was brought down inside the 18-yard box. Conor Parsons was coolness personified from the subsequent spot-kick, much to the delight of the away supporters.

Ballinrobe regrouped and the red and white reduced the deficit on 24 minutes. A marvellous delivery from Liam O’Toole found Shane Ryan and the latter’s header rustled the back of the net.

Castlebar very nearly fashioned a third goal on 33 minutes, but Ciaran McHale’s header clipped the crossbar.

The second half was keenly contested, with both sides full of endeavour in the balmy weather conditions.

However, Castlebar added the insurance goal on 81 minutes when Jack Lynn’s ambitious long-range effort clipped the underside of the crossbar before crossing the goal-line.
