East Mayo passengers 'stranded' as delayed buses miss connection

PASSENGERS on the Galway to Kiltimagh/Swinford evening bus are getting stranded in Claremorris.

They are missing their connection to the two east Mayo towns when the bus from the city arrives in late to Claremorris.

And if you can't afford a taxi, the only other option is to walk, Councillor Adrian Forkan told the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council.

The connection with the Galway bus in the evening is 'causing chaos', he explained.

He knew of two women receiving cancer treatment in Galway who had both been left stranded.

The bus in Claremorris has to wait there until the Galway bus comes in, he said. Something has to be done.

Councillor Forkan also requested an update on bus shelters for Bohola, Kiltimagh and Swinford.

The bus stops in Kiltimagh and Swinford also need addressing so that both towns aren't blocked two or three times every day, he said.

A separate issue with the Claremorris bus service was raised by Councillor Richard Finn.

People finish work at 5 p.m. but the bus doesn't leave Claremorris until 6.30, meaning they have to wait around after their day's work.
