Specsavers Mayo encourages community to reconnect with the power of sound
As World Listening Day approaches – taking place on July 18 – Specsavers Mayo is urging locals to take a moment to appreciate the vital role listening plays in their daily lives and to consider the health of their hearing.
World Listening Day is an annual event dedicated to the world's sounds and the practice of listening to understand the world around us. From the laughter of loved ones to the sounds of nature or the buzz of a busy town, our ability to listen connects us to our community and enhances our experiences.
“On World Listening Day, we want to highlight that listening is so much more than just hearing. It's about connection, understanding, and fully engaging with the world,” said Orla Walsh, Specsavers audiology chairperson. “Some people in Mayo may be missing out on these vital sounds due to undetected hearing loss. We believe everyone deserves to experience the world to its fullest.”
The team at Specsavers Mayo is dedicated to making quality hearing care accessible to everyone. Early detection of hearing loss can lead to more effective management and significantly improve quality of life. With PRSI treatment benefits available, eligible individuals can avail of a free pair of hearing devices up to the value of €1,000 or put their PRSI contribution towards the cost of a more expensive pair. Even with a Medical Card, many will also have PRSI entitlements which would make them eligible for a free pair of hearing aids.
Orla added: “We encourage everyone in Mayo to mark World Listening Day by taking a proactive step towards their hearing health. A quick, free check could be the first step to rediscovering sounds you might have been missing.”
Specsavers Mayo offers a comprehensive range of audiology services, including hearing checks, ear wax removal, expert advice, and a wide selection of hearing devices to suit individual needs and budgets. The audiology hub is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by experienced audiologists dedicated to providing personalised care.
Specsavers is encouraging the nation to prioritise their hearing health this World Listening Day and not delay seeking help.
