Mayo Tesco store officially relaunched after €5m. facelift
TESCO Ballina has officially relaunched following an extensive €5 million refurbishment of the store.
Over the past 10 months, the store in Market Square has undergone a major transformation, enhancing both the shopping experience for customers and the colleague areas of the store.
The store remained open during the works, and customers have noticed significant changes to the internal layout as well as the façade of the building.
The new and improved outlet offers shoppers an enhanced in-store experience, featuring a modernised fresh food area at the front of the store, wider aisles, a new energy saving roof, self-service checkouts, a Deposit Return machine, in-store bakery, and an off-licence. New perimeter paving, ramp access, handrails and barrier protection have also been added.
Customers will find a great selection of Mayo-based brands in store such as Connacht Milk, Western Brand Group, O’Hara’s of Foxford, MMM Family Bakery, Hanley Catering and Westport-based Cabots Foods, to name a few.
Store manager Séamus McGowan says colleagues and customers are full of praise for the new look store.
“The store has undergone a huge change with upgrades to every aspect of the shop, including shelving, lighting, fridges, floor design, as well as a new entrance porch and new look façade to the building. New lighting and heating were also installed as well as a new fully insulated solar roof, which will make the store much more energy efficient,” he said.
Speaking at the official reopening, Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary said: “I’m thrilled to see the transformation of Tesco Ballina into a truly modern store, which the people of the town and surrounding areas can enjoy for many years to come.
“Tesco has always played a big part in the community here in Ballina and I look forward to many more years of engagement with the retailer.”
Tesco Ireland CEO Geoff Byrne says he’s delighted with the newly renovated store: “This newly revamped store marks a significant milestone for Tesco as we celebrate more than 27 years of a presence in the region. We’re proud to be part of the local community in Ballina and we are passionate about supporting brilliant local producers and helping to promote local businesses across County Mayo.”
Tesco is a proud supporter of the communities it serves. To date its Community Fund has helped support thousands of organisations across the country, from GAA clubs to children’s charities. In Mayo, 1,152 community projects have received €465,000 in financial support since 2014, including Ballina Braves Basketball Club, Bumbleance, and Ballina First Responders.
Tesco is also actively supporting children in the county through its Stronger Starts programmes, with children from seven schools receiving free weekly packs of fresh fruit and veg during the school term. While coming soon, children from one local school will be chosen to take part in Stronger Starts Cooks, a free educational programme that aims to teach children about healthy eating and cooking.
