Progress on long-awaited €11.4m. investment in Mayo urban renewal project

A €11.5 million investment on the renewal of Castlebar's 'historic core' is being progressed after years of delay.

A sum of €2.53 million is being spent on transforming the old post office at Mountain View into a youth centre.

Works are ongoing in respect of the following elements on site: roof slate and leadwork, restored First Floor Sliding Sash windows to be returned to site and installed while mechanical and electrical works have commenced.

Backlands at The Mall and Ellison Street are to be upgraded at a costs of €1.85 million.

A multi-disciplinary team is appointed to provide a full scope of service from design, planning, tender, construction through to completion.

The works include:

* Public realm works at the Mall

* Masterplan, design development, planning and access, infrastructure and services works at lands between Ellison Street and the Mall.

* Survey works are nearing completion and initial design proposals are being developed with public consultation expected in the coming months.

A total of €7 million is to be spent in transforming the former Imperial Hotel into an innovation hub, for which tenders are now being invited.
