Goals from Slevin and Dunleavy secure Mayo Tonra Cup title for Swinford
Two second half goals inside the space of two minutes from Joe Slevin and Aiden Dunleavy proved crucial in the end, as Swinford won the Tonra Cup at Umbro Park Milebush.
Ballina Town (B) could have taken the lead on 28 minutes, when a chance was conjured up for Ryan Moran, whose strike was saved by Jamie Leahy, before the former saw his subsequent rebound hit the side-netting.
The first half lacked clear-cut scoring opportunities, however, on 57 minutes, the east Mayo side snatched the lead.
A marvellous cross from Evan Rowley found Joe Slevin and the latter’s perfectly placed header flew past Neil Langdon and rustled the back of the net.
Two minutes later, Swinford fashioned a vital second goal. In a move which emanated from a Swinford corner-kick, the ball fell invitingly to Aiden Dunleavy, who from outside the penalty box, guided home a smashing finish which found the top corner of the net.
Ballina Town (B) tried to instigate a comeback, but their brave efforts proved in vain and Swinford held on to win the Tonra Cup.
