Threat of protest if something isn't done about Mayo town's pedestrian crossing

THERE is going to be a protest in Foxford if something isn't done about the pedestrian crossing in the town.

And local Councillor Neil Cruise has promised to lead the charge, with locals fed up and frustrated waiting for safety concerns to be addressed.

Councillor Cruise has tirelessly raised speeding traffic and the issue with the crossing, and this month's meeting of Mayo County Council saw him speaking on it again.

“Eleven years on from when I was elected and it's still a burning issue,” he told the officials, it having been denied for six or seven years that there was anything wrong.

Two accidents have occurred at the crossing recently and there is going to be a fatality, he warned, with speed and visibility issues at the location.

We don't need options and safety reports, he stated. “We need simple common sense and works need to start happening.”

It's coming to a situation where the crossing is going to be blocked and he will lead the charge if he has to.

People aren't happy and there is going to be a big protest, he warned.
