Wallet lost on Mayo beach reunited with owner in chance meeting
A WALLET lost on a beach in Mayo was reunited with its owner after he and the finder both turned up at a garda station in Galway at the same time.
The chance meeting happened last week at Gaillimh Garda Station, with the happy ending reported on the An Garda Síochána Facebook page.
Muhammad Yasir was enjoying a day trip to Keem Beach in Achill when he felt an awful pang - that moment when you realise you’ve lost your wallet.
He phoned the local garda station to report his wallet being lost and returned home to Galway.
Two days later, he called into the public office at Gaillimh Garda Station to get forms stamped for replacement IDs and driving licence.
Garda Aoife Culkin was on duty at the time and asked for his name.
Olwyn Whelan happened to be waiting in the public office at the same time and overheard.
She chipped in: “Excuse me, I think I have your wallet!”
It turned out that Olwyn was also on a trip to Keem Beach with her boyfriend the same day as Muhammad. She found his wallet on the road and was at the station to hand it in.
