CPO for north Mayo flood relief scheme submitted to Coimisiún Pleanála

THE Compulsory Purchase Order for the Ballina Flood Relief Scheme has been published and submitted to An Coimisiún Pleanála for approval.

Submissions or observations in relation to the CPOs must be made to the board no later than 5 p.m. on August 28.

The multi-million-euro scheme, when complete, will provide flood protection for 297 properties within Ballina and its urban environs, of which 228 constitute existing residential properties.

It will also result in significant enhancement to the public realm and provide improved accessibility to the River Moy for fishing activities/Inland Fisheries Ireland.

The scheme comprises primarily of flood walls and a raised public realm area at Cathedral Road, and a combination of culvert renewal, new culverts and embankments on four tributaries. It also includes four new (sub-surface) pumping stations and a new stormwater collection network along the River Moy quays.
