Mayo needs dedicated road line marking machine

MAYO needs its own road line painting machine.

That was the message from councillors to management who are fed up shouting about line marking.

The issue was raised by Councillor Marie Therese Duffy who was told the council has no plans to get a machine as the costs are too prohibitive.

Councillor Michael Loftus said the situation is 'a disgrace' as marking - which is done by contractors - is not taking place in the county.

He noted how the council has a paving machine in its yard in Castlebar that hasn't been used for two years. Why not get rid of it and get a line marker instead, he suggested.

A breakdown of costs was requested by Councillor Donna Sheridan: how much is being spent on contractors, and how much would it cost to get a line marking machine.

She also asked for details on how many days contractors have come to the county and those where they cancelled.
