North Mayo to roll out the red carpet for European Para Youth Champion

The town of Crossmolina adds a new name to its storied list of sporting heroes, Damien Moyles, following his remarkable success at the European Para Youth Games in Istanbul.

Moyles clinched gold in the T13 400-metre race earlier today (Sunday), topping off what has been a sensational showing for the young sprinter.

This follows his achievement on Saturday, when he secured Ireland’s first medal of the Games with a silver in the 100-metre sprint.

Moyles was quick to thank those who’ve supported him throughout his journey.

Speaking after his silver medal win, he credited the Irish Paralympic support staff and his coach, Dermott McDermott, adding that he had grown accustomed to the heat during his time in Turkey.

Locals will have the opportunity to show their appreciation at a special homecoming celebration, which will take place at the Crossmolina Civic Centre at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 28.
