Mayo native commits to Geelong Cats until end of 2027

Kilmaine’s Oisín Mullin has committed his future to the Geelong Cats for another two years, with the Mayo man signing a contract extension that will keep him in Australia until at least the end of the 2027 AFL season.

The 25-year-old, who was one of Mayo’s standout performers during their All-Ireland final runs in 2020 and 2021, has become a key part of Geelong’s set-up since making his AFL debut last year.

Mullin first came to the attention of AFL scouts while still a rising star in Gaelic football, winning the prestigious GAA Young Footballer of the Year award and an All-Star in 2020.

He featured in two All-Ireland finals for Mayo by the age of 21 and was widely tipped for a long inter-county career before choosing to make the switch to professional sport.

Having signed with Geelong as a Category B rookie in late 2021, Mullin arrived in Australia at the end of 2022. He made his senior debut in Round 9 of the 2023 season and featured in six games that year.

Mullin took significant strides in 2024, playing in 12 matches including two finals, and has already lined out 18 times this season, missing just one fixture.

Initially deployed across the half-back line, the powerful and athletic Mullin has recently been trusted with midfield responsibilities, often tasked with tracking some of the opposition's top players.

Speaking following the announcement, Geelong’s Executive General Manager of Football, Andrew Mackie, praised Mullin’s rapid development and commitment.

“Oisín has shown enormous growth in a short space of time and continues to impress us with his work ethic and willingness to learn,” Mackie said.

“As with all our Irish players, we understand the enormity of the decision to move to Australia. We love having Oisín as part of our program and we can’t wait to see him play an important role for us over the next two years and beyond.”
