Tree felling to improve road safety at Mayo beauty spot

COILLTE are looking to improve safety on the road at Drummin Woods, outside Foxford, with some tree felling.

It would involve closing the R318 from Foxford train station to the Pontoon junction on the Ballina-Castlebar road, and Councillor Neil Cruise has asked for council support with this.

Drummin Woods suffered huge damage during Storm Éowyn and Coillte's estates manager wants to do a lot of tree felling along the road, which requires a closure for up to a week.

Early September has been identified for the works.

Councillor Cruise said he has received huge representations from the local community. Since the storm, three trees have fallen out onto the road and it beholds the council to bring this forward, with a lot of people using this road.

Road closures have to be advertised for public submission, he was told, and the advice was for Coillte to make immediate contact with the council.
