Delay on west Mayo greenway proposal questioned

CLARITY has been requested on the up to date position with the proposed Belclare-Murrisk greenway.

Public representatives were told they'd have a route before them last March, followed by public consultation, but it still hasn't been identified, and Councillor Brendan Mulroy has asked: “What is the delay.”

At the monthly municipal meeting, he was told the project is still going through route option selection, with no determination on the route yet.

There were environmental studies to be done, along with looking at optimising the route, said municipal head Seamus Ó Mongáin, and there had also been staff changes in the roads design office which only recently became fully staffed again. But they are finalising the route, he added.

Cathaoirleach Councillor Peter Flynn asked that the matter be on the agenda for their September meeting for an update on where exactly the project is at, and if it will proceed by way of a Part 8 planning application or through An Bord Pleanála.
