Former Mayo player making Champions League debut tonight

A former Mayo-based footballer will make her Champions League debut this evening.

Roisin Molloy is a key member of the Athlone Town team who face Cardiff City in a Champions League qualifier kicking off at their home stadium in Lissywollen at 7.30 p.m.

Molloy was an instrumental figure in Athlone Town being crowned SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division champions for the first time last year.

She joined the midlands club in 2021 having played with Kiltimagh Knock United for two seasons at Under 19 level and also featuring in the club's senior women's side. And previously she was with Sligo Rovers Under 17s for two years and also lined out with Castlebar Celtic and Gurteen at underage level.

There has been huge interest from fans for tonight's fixture, and the advice is to buy tickets online in advance, with limited tickets available at this stage.

The game will be available to watch live for free on the LOITV streaming platform.

The winners of tonight's game will face Croatian side ZNK Agram this Saturday, August 2, at 4 p.m., in Athlone Town Stadium.
