Two goals for former Mayo footballer in Champions League win for Athlone Town

FORMER Mayo footballer Roisin Molloy scored twice for Athlone Town in the club's debut game in the Champions League last night.

Molloy, who previously played with Kiltimagh Knock United Under 19 and women's teams, and also plied her trade with Castlebar Celtic at underage for a time, was on fire as Athlone defeated visitors Cardiff City 4-0 in the European qualifier.

In a game played at their home stadium, Athlone opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Izzy Groves, and Molloy made it 3-0 by half-time when she slotted home in the 41st and 43rd minutes.

A goal just minutes into the second half from Hannah Waesch had Town cruising, with a 4-0 win setting them up for a second European qualifying match this weekend.

The winners will face Croatian side ZNK Agram this Saturday, August 2, at 4 p.m., in Athlone Town Stadium.
