Water outages issue in Mayo county town area must be resolved

THE frequency of water outages in a busy business and residential location in Castlebar has been questioned.

Councillor Ger Deere has contacted Uisce Éireann to ascertain what is the cause of there being so many burst water pipes in the Moneen/Breaffy Road area in recent times.

He said in the last week alone three such bursts have occurred, leaving hundred of householders and businesses without water for a considerable amount of time.

The latest water burst occurred at Moneen yesterday morning, affecting homes and businesses along the northern side of the Moneen Road, including the N5 Business Park, Cedar House, Roadstone and the Castlebar Primary Care Centre.

“Clarity needs to be given as to what is causing such frequent bursts,” said Councillor Deere, “and what steps are being taken to find a permanent solution to solve the issue.

“Householders and businesses need assurance on this matter.”

Councillor Deere pointed out: “We have a large number of industries in that particular area and they rely on a good quality and secure water supply to operate so we need this issue to be resolved urgently.”
