Another water burst affecting east Mayo town this morning

UISCE Éireann crews are working to repair a burst water main in Swinford which is affecting supply to the town centre this morning.

This morning’s burst occurred as the main was being repressurised following yesterday’s repairs.

Customers in the town and surrounding areas may be experiencing a disruption to their water supply as a result of the burst.

Crews are on the ground and are working to restore a normal supply as quickly as possible.

It is estimated that repairs will be complete and supplies restored by this afternoon.

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

Alternative water supplies remain available on Market Street, and outside Horkan’s Public House on Main Street. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Ronan McDonnell of Uisce Éireann said crews are working to restore normal supply as quickly as possible.

“We understand customers’ frustration with an outage for a second day in a row, and we wish to thank impacted customers for their understanding as we work to restore supply,” he said.
