Mayo community shocked at death of popular farmer in quad bike tragedy
A Co. Mayo community has been numbed following the death of a popular farmer in a quad bike accident.
James (Jimmy) Forkin, who was in his sixties, lived at Carrabeg, Kilkelly.
He was on a quad bike which overturned yesterday (Wednesday) and he was pinned underneath.
Mr. Forkin, a well known and popular figure throughout east Mayo, died at the scene despite efforts to revive him.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene, including paramedics, gardaí and firemen.
John Caulfield, a member of Mayo County Council, described Mr. Forkin as a hard-working and popular member of the farming community in the east Mayo region.
“We are shocked and numbed,” Councillor Caulfield commented. “All our thoughts are with Jimmy’s wife, Chris, and his other relatives.”
Arrangements have been made for the funeral of Mr. Forkin.
His remains will repose at the Marian Funeral Home, Knock, on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., with funeral on Sunday to Culmore Cemetery following Requiem Mass in nearby Glann Church at 2 p.m.
Predeceased by his sisters Mary and Noreen and his niece Michelle, Jimmy is survived by his heartbroken wife Chris, nephew Gavin, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces-in-law, nephews-in-law, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, cousins, neighbours and many friends.
