Leaving Cert Class of 1985, St. Gerald’s College, Castlebar.

Reunion of St. Gerald's College Leaving Cert Class of 1985

THE year was 1985, and a group of callow lads from Castlebar were sitting down to their first Leaving Cert exam, as the sun split the stones (predictably) outside. It was the summer of Live Aid, Madonna was ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’, Eddie Murphy was Axel Foley in ‘Beverly Hills Cop’, U2 played their first headline concert at Croke Park, and Mayo were All-Ireland minor champions!

Roll forward to Saturday, October 25, and the same set of lads, admittedly a bit longer in the tooth, and shorter in the hairline, are planning to meet up for a reunion in The Bridge Bar in Castlebar to celebrate the passing of 40 more summers since that fateful day.

The plan is to meet at 5.30 p.m. for a nostalgic tour of St. Geralds, followed by the main festivities kicking off at 7 p.m. downstairs in the Bridge bar, before adjourning to upstairs at 8 p.m. for some fun, story-telling, and a chance to reconnect with your old buddies.

All attempts have been made to contact everyone in the class, but if you are hearing about this for the first time, and were a member of the class of 1979-1985, then please send on an email at stgeralds1985@gmail.com and the organisers will send you on the full details. Otherwise hope to see you there - it promises to be a fun-packed night!
